I am nominating myself to serve on the Friends of Lake Wenatchee Y Camp board because this camp has been a foundational part of my life—spiritually, developmentally, and communally. I believe in and have seen over and over again—the life-changing power of camp and want to help steward that legacy for future generations.

My journey with camp began as a camper in 1996 and I’ve stuck around in various roles for nearly 30 years. I came for the horses, and stayed for the camp family. Attending camp for 10 years as a camper, led to serving as a full-time, year-round staff for three years. Even while I was away at college and doing retreat ministry, I returned to camp for two summers as seasonal staff, then again as waterfront director in 2011. During nursing school and newlywed life, I continued to volunteer for a week each summer, as well as participating in the occasional work party. After earning my nursing degree, I returned as a camp nurse—and for the past eight years, I’ve committed to at least one week each summer, often adding a second as my schedule allows.

Beyond YMCA programming, I’ve also served as camp nurse and camp director for Cor Christi Camp for 8 years. Our first year, 2018, we brought our group to Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp as a rental group, though we’ve since relocated to Lazy F due to scheduling availability.

It has been an honor to be involved in the formation of the Friends of Lake Wenatchee Y Camp Alumni group, which has kept me connected with camp’s long-term mission and needs. What draws me to camp is not just nostalgia but a deep belief that the camp environment uniquely shapes lives—it certainly shaped mine. Camp taught me leadership, resilience, faith, confidence, and the value of service. I want to continue bringing that same opportunity to others, especially as we navigate how to preserve camp’s heart and mission during a time of transition.

If selected for the board, I hope to bring both historical context and forward-thinking creativity. I bring a heart for storytelling, a voice for current camp families, staff, and alumni, and a deep desire to preserve and renew what has made Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp a special place for so many of us.

Thank you for considering me for the board. I would be honored to serve this place and community that has poured so much into me.
